Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Matchup Against Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder contributed to the Astros claiming the championship in the 2017 season.

Canada's MLB team earned a spot in their maiden championship series since the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Trailing by two runs, Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh inning, guiding the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a four games to three triumph in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the upcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, the city, our country," commented Springer, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an incredible feeling."

The veteran has now connected for 23 total post-season home runs, making him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"It's hard to imagine another person on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, after leading the early in the series, remain the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it's painful" in the wake of his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance throughout the year.

"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we ended up on the wrong side of this game," he continued.

Toronto's team won the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
