Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to seize a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
