Swedish Team Announcement: Alexander Isak Selected While Gyokeres Misses Out
The striker joined the Gunners after leaving Sporting this summer
Gunners striker Viktor Gyokeres has been omitted from the new manager's initial Sweden team selection, whereas Liverpool forward Alexander Isak received selection
Gyokeres is set to undergo more medical tests in the coming days following fears he sustained a muscle problem in Arsenal's English top flight win at Burnley on Saturday
Gyokeres missed the Gunners' Champions League win versus Slavia Prague earlier this week
Alexander Isak Returns
Isak, who has been sidelined from late October owing to a groin problem, made the squad to play in World Cup qualifying fixtures versus Switzerland (November 15th) and the Slovenian side (18 November)
Additional England-based Selections
- Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall, currently rehabilitating from concussion
- Newcastle wide player the Swedish international
Both athletes were included in the England-based contingent named by ex- multiple English clubs boss the new Swedish coach
The New Manager's Role
Potter was named by Sweden first for an interim period in late October, less than a month after leaving by the Hammers
Former boss the Danish coach was sacked following the national team's defeat to Kosovo on 13 October, an outcome that ended straight qualification from qualifying group out of reach
Current Situation
Sweden sit bottom of their qualifying group having only a single point in their opening four games
Should they fail to claim the runner-up spot, there remains a chance they might participate in the secondary qualification as a result thanks to their showing during the previous UEFA competition
