This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the character of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
